Stretching and Sushi

With all the Ke$ha talk, I haven’t had time to mention Saturday day. Hubs and I had an appointment with Michael (our Crossfit trainer) for a workout. After the workout, we got to talking about stretching.

Confession:  I never stretch. Ever.

Michael went on about the benefits of stretching and why it’s so important. I mean, I know it’s important and I should do it. I just don’t. When he heard this, he did a long series of partner stretches with us. I went first and then the hubs.

Well, NOW I know what they mean by “hurts so good.” The stretches he did on us were so uncomfortable but afterwards I felt like a wonderful puddle of goo. So this week I’m going to finally buy a foam roller and start stretching like a good girl. On a side note, he had us do so many flutter kicks (400) , leg raises (100), mountain climbers (400), and sit ups (100) that it’s hard to stand up right now.

After Crossfit, Hubs and I went out to lunch at Seito Sushi in Baldwin Park.

The inside is much more contemporary than the one in Winter Park Village. We liked it a lot better.

Look at Hubs here looking all cute. (And having no idea that I’m dragging him to Ke$ha two nights in a row.)

I started with the Clear Broth Soup. It had crab, mushrooms, seaweed, and tempura flakes.

I didn’t care for it, so I had a few bites and gave the rest to Hubs. (He liked it.)

Then we ordered a few appetizers. Hubs had the crab cake which came out looking so pretty you almost didn’t want to eat it.

Hubs also had the Steamed Shrimp Dumplings. Total yum.

And I had the Beef Negimaki. Also yumtastic.

The food doesn’t stop there. We each ordered a Spicy Volcano Roll, I had a Lava Roll (a California roll with scallops on top), and Hubs had Salmon nigiri.

Isn’t the Volcano Roll cute? They put red fish roe (?) on top to make it look like it’s the top of a volcano. Presentation at the Baldwin Park Seito is way better than the one at Winter Park Village.

Everything was really good. We hadn’t been out for sushi in a LONG time.


After lunch, we walked around to see if we could find a yogurt place. There was one within about 50 feet of where we were but we walked in the complete opposite direction.

We walked back to the Seito Sushi area to try out Delish, a self-serve frozen yogurt place.

This place was properly named in case you were wondering.

I’ve never been to a self-serve place before. OMG. I was missing out.

They have little cups so you can sample the flavor before you make your cup. I tried out the Pistachio flavored yogurt. It was good, but had a strange after taste.

I went with the Birthday Cake and Red Velvet Cake flavors. (Next time, I’m going full Birthday Cake and kicking Red Velvet to the curb.)

There were a bunch of toppings to choose from and just when you think you’ve put all the toppings on your yogurt that you can…

…you look and there are even more toppings.

I added Kiwi, Oreos, Strawberry Bursts, Marshmallows, and Brownie bites. Next time, less fruit more cookies.

We sat on a shaded bench by the water to have our yogurt. Hubs and I loved Delish and are ready to go back. It was a nice afternoon. Smile

How often do you stretch? (It’s ok to yell at me in the comments for not stretching after all this time.)

Do you eat raw fish? (I used to eat spicy tuna rolls but I had a food poisoning incident that I’m sure was from sushi and now the thought of raw food makes my stomach churn.)

  1. The Baldwin Park Seito looks a lot more like the Dr. Phillips one, which is super modern and swanky. Love me some raw fish, especially the roe. Though Brandon has taken to berating me every time I eat it in front of him – big mistake telling him it was fish eggs.

    man, you and me both have to get back into stretching- my hips are tight so i squat like a duck sometimes. GROSS. i have 3 lacrosse balls and a foam roller- i did a post on mobility and stretching at my old blog:

  4. I used to never stretch. I’ve been running pretty much since my sophomore year of HS (so 11 years…yikes!) and I never stretched. Then, this year, when I started really putting in serious mileage, I started to get twinges and pains more often, so I started stretching after every run.

    Sushi is THE best! Too bad my husband hates seafood, so I never get any.

  5. I am the worst about stretching . . . it’s boring. I lose interest fast. Fro yo, however, does keep my attention! 🙂

  6. I try to stretch everyday after my cardio, but inevitably I miss at least one day a week when I’m just lazy/late for work/etc.

    … Maybe if I rewarded myself with sushi i’d do it more consistantly. .lol

  7. I am not a very good stretcher. Maybe 2x/week? I’m working on it.
    And, no, I don’t do raw fish. I think it’s more mental than anything else, but I have tried it several times & gagged. I just can’t bring myself to do it.

  8. Okay it’s like you knew I was already hungry when I would read this post and then filled it with tons of yummy pictures. No fair! (minus the sushi, I don’t do seafood of any kind)

    I need to work on stretching too. I always forget to stretch after I run. I’m so focused on trying to breathe again/hydrate that stretching kinda slips my mind.

  9. I too suck at stretching, but my hips and back are so insanely tight lately (that sounded dirty), so I’ve been working on it.

    Damn you and your frozen yogurt Floridaness.

    I’m a yoga person, so I’m always stretching. I didn’t used to stretch before going out to jog, but I would try to stretch after. I do both now, to warm up and to stay loose.

    I never eat raw fish or seafood…or rare beef. I like my food to be cooked and anything that bleeds or squishes gets a side eye from me.

  12. For some reason I’m baffled about the stretching! But, I wonder if I also stretch when I’m not supposed to…I’ve heard that pre-run it’s not good to stretch anyway. Have you heard anything similar?

    • I’ve heard you don’t need to pre-run but post-run is the important part. Or just post-workout in general. I need to do ANY stretching. I’m terrible at it! I just don’t want to take the time for some reason.

    I’ve FINALLY gotten better about stretching. It only took two injuries that probably could have been avoided. Now I stretch and foam roll every night for about 20 minutes. I really try never to skip it. It helps that I love terrible TV, so that motivates me.

    I LOVE the self-serve yogurt places! I’m indecisive, so it suits me great. Though I’m always a little embarrassed about the weight of my yogurt.
