Halloween Anxiety

I’m having Halloween anxiety. This happens every year right before Halloween. I have a minor breakdown because I don’t know how I want to dress up. I won’t dress up unless I get inspired somehow and I usually don’t do repeat costumes. So, the day before Halloween, I pull something together in an all-day-long rushed panic. Here are some of the fruits of my panic attacks:

Pregnant Britney Spears (2005)

Notice the microphone? That’s authenticity, my friends.

I got pulled into a work costume contest that I didn’t want to be in. Damn peer pressure. This was after Britney’s first kid but before she was pregnant with the second one. I must have had a sixth sense about her womb because I was also carrying around an infant baby doll because I thought it was funny. Everyone made comments that she only had one kid. Ha! Well, I showed them. Later on, when I asked someone to guess who I was, she said Jessica Simpson. *fail*

Marge Simpson (2006, maybe)

I’m at another work costume contest here, but this time I refused to enter. (I know no one believes me, but I’m shy.) I couldn’t find a necklace, so I had to buy those beads and make it myself. Then, I couldn’t find a green strapless dress anywhere. So the night before I had to dress up, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a couple yards of green fabric and tucked it into a black strapless dress I had at home. Party City has this costume now. That would have come in handy 5 years ago.

A completely original “Little Girl” (2007)

The only thing worse than this costume is people who dress up in their pajamas for Halloween. I had plans to go to a party and wasn’t going to dress up because I was uninspired. Then I changed my mind at the last minute and panicked. This was basically all stuff I already had in my closet paired with a trip to Claire’s for kid’s jewelry.

Alice (2008)

This one was more planned. I was Alice from American McGee’s Alice. Not only is that a video game, but it’s the first video game that I was into in the biggest nerd-like way. Hubs was the Mad Hatter. The naughty pirate is not from the game, by the way. 😉

Sookie Stackhouse (2010)

This was last year. I ordered the whole costume from HBO online thinking I was clever and 2 weeks later they were at every freakin’ Hot Topic. Let’s just say I was not the only Sookie at this party.

Avril Lavigne (2009, maybe)

Thank you Kohls, for your horrible Avril Lavinge clothes line. We were going for a rock band type of theme here. Hubs was Rob Zombie. This wasn’t Halloween though. Most likely just a quiet Tuesday night at home.

And last but not least, something to offend everyone…

White Trash (2006)

Hubs was my abusive, fight-picking boyfriend. To be fair, I really wanted to be Peggy Bundy but couldn’t find a red wig anywhere. So, this is what I ended up with.

This year, I’m doing a repeat outfit for work (that I didn’t post here, but will post later) and I’m still deciding on what to do for a Halloween party this weekend. T minus 3 days until I start freaking out about it!

What are you going to be for Halloween?

Check out a couple of my hub’s previous costumes, if you’d like. (He makes them himself!)

  1. The fake microphone is indeed authentic Britney. All you were missing is her karaoke “performance” backing track.

  2. I’m dying laughing because the year I was pregnant, I was pregnant Britney Spears too (and my husband was K Fed — it was right after the split) and Katy was Marge Simpson. I’ll send you a photo. It’s like you’re a mashup of us.

And I love your Sookie costume. I saw you post it before, and even if there were others there, I guarantee you were the best. It’s SO GOOD!

  3. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing your costumes this year….;)

  4. Those are ALL awesome. I miss dressing up…and having a life…I haven’t dressed up in years!

Can’t wait to see this years get-up. Cheers!

  5. I’m going to be Scary Spice and I think Zombie Dobby from Harry Potter.
I cant wait to see your costume!

  6. haha, I love looking at peoples’ past Halloween costumes. Here are mine from the past several years if you want to creep them: http://happyorhungry.com/2011/10/18/costumes-of-halloweens-past/
I love Sookie! I might have to do that this year. I am a last minuter this year as well…I still have no idea what I’m being and it will probably be a game-day decision. I’ll be freaking out on Saturday for sure.
I’m excited to see what you end up doing!

  7. I’d say you have a pretty darn good record with the Halloween costumes. I was surprised to see that you have yet to dress up as any type of booze…ha.

  8. Mz. Teri

I *want* those boots from the Alice costume!!!! Can I borrow them sometime? 😀

  9. My friend at work has little boys who are going as Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, and as overused as that is, they are freaking adorable.

I’m with runningismagial… you need to be Captain Morgan.

  10. I seriously am just like you when it comes to Halloween. I get so excited every year to dress up, but when the time comes to think of a costume, I get panicky and sweaty palms. I always want something clever… but am not funny enough to think of anything good. It’s getting down to the wire!

  11. I have the same exact freak out! I get psyched for it then have a melt down of what to actually do. I hate spending money on something like this too… and of course I have no idea what to wear AGAIN! Must think of something asap

  12. You are very creative!! I usually try to put my own outfit together and also buy one…this year I just bought one. I’m going to be the Evil Queen from Snow White. I love Halloween!

  13. I love your costumes! I need to up my costume game.

  14. Last year, I was Walk of Shame–short skirt, guys sweatshirt, smeared makeup, bedhead, missing shoe and earring, wristbands, bra hanging out of my purse, hand stamps, and hickeys painted on my neck with makeup. Classy.com. This year, I’ll probably be Strawberry Shortcake, Wonder Woman (my sister has both costumes already), or something where I can wear my purple wig. Man, I love my purple wig.

  15. Haha I like your hubby’s newscaster costume, awesome!

      Hey Paula,
My apologizes for sending a random link with no explanation…I don’t do comments very often! Guess “bo1ogna” doesn’t give you much to go on, does it? 😉

  16. LOVE THEM ALL! So great:-) I was thinking of being a cougar this year, and no- not the animal. But my cougar outfit looks more like Peg Bundy!
Then I have a Mad Hatter costume that I may rock…who knows. I get anxiety over the whole dress up thing too!

  17. Wow, you have great Halloween costumes! I really like Sookie; you look like her once you black out a tooth!

Unfortunately, they didn’t let me keep the gown – darn! Last year I was a “racy referee.” Not sure what I will be this year.

  18. in other news, this show is the weirdest, scariest shit I’ve ever seen and I AM NOT KIDDING.

  19. You look so different with the dark wig!

I don’t do the dress-up thing. Chalk it up to laziness. I’m doing a 5k this weekend, and people who dress up get a headstart. For that reason alone I might scramble to find something.*

  20. Lee

Oh no! I’m going to be Sookie this year!

  21. I love your costumes! I’m always so unmotivated at Halloween. It’s weird because I love theme parties, but I kind of hate thinking of Halloween costumes.

  22. I love Halloween too, but I don’t know if I’ll get the opportunity to dress up this year. We’ll see.
    Love your costumes! 🙂

  23. I’m going to be a marathon runner. Yeah, creative right?

  24. Wow, you can really pull off Sookie Stackhouse! I think my favorite is either Alice (great game!) or Marge Simpson.

  25. Annoyed. If my husband invites his family over. Just complicates things. And not part of our normal tradition of sitting in the driveway, drinking beer and eating pizza.

    The Kidless Kronicles

  26. You and your hubs are seriously impressive. Anytime I find myself a costume I recycle it for at least 3 years. And most recently, I bought a wig, hoping to find more items to complete the look, but never actually doing so. This will be the third time I’ve worn the wig, with normal clothes. Not exactly a costume but festive at least.
