Girl Crushes

The thought of losing my marathon training is freaking me out a little. I know it’s going to happen because I can’t keep up the mileage year-long while still keeping my sanity, but the thought of losing something I trained so long for really sucks. I could still run a marathon right now if I had to, but as the weeks tick away, I’m losing my long run endurance and that makes me kinda sad. I know that sounds lame. But it’s true.

I tried to make myself feel better with a speedier (for me) run on Tuesday night, so I tried mile repeats.

I walked for about .20 mile between each full mile. The whole run sucked. I wasn’t feeling it and my left calf was hurting (again) so now I’m icing it every night. I have a half marathon coming up in 2 weeks so this calf thing needs to clear up ASAP. Plus, the gym was super crowded and the only treadmill available was the one with the TV that only got the CW. So I unwillingly watched One Tree Hill, which I’ve never seen before.

What is happening here? Is that girl levitating? Why isn’t anyone concerned? I know Chad Michael Murray isn’t in the show anymore, but I really like the random levitator and the guy on the right that looks like he’s confused about where he is.

Catching a show for the first time in its 9th season is interesting. I was so confused. I mean, since when do serial prime-time soap operas have so many babies in it? There were babies everywhere! And there’s one thing I know about babies and TV.

Seriously, the show was boring. But maybe I needed 9 years of history to think a bunch of random babies and a girl pouting all episode because someone called her song crappy is interesting. Oh, and if you can tell me where the phrase “jump the shark” came from without looking it up, you get a gold star and +10 nerd points.

There is one thing I did like about One Tree Hill. Meet my new girl crush, Sophia Bush.

She looks like a brown-haired Kristen Bell. I’m going to add her to all my other girl crushes. Looks like these ladies are gonna have to make a little room in that collage for the new girl.

Also, Verlin reminded me that I never mentioned my body fat percentage after I got it tested again. I’m back at 22.5%. 😦 It doesn’t take long to screw up progress, that’s for sure. So now I’m working toward getting back to 17% by:

  1. Strength training more
  2. Snacking less (at night)
  3. Eating more protein (going from about 80 g a day to 130 g when I can)
  4. Trying not to eat a big Cinnamon Crunch bagel (with hazelnut cream cheese) from Panera one hour after eating breakfast…like today.

Who’s your girl crush? (Guys, you can answer this too.)

I know the Happy Days “jump the shark” story!! I know lots of useless things.

I’m totally with you on Emma Stone and Keri Russell as girl crushes. Fo sho’.

  2. Stop with the (for me) comments–that is a great speedy run! Sorry it sucked, but as someone (YOU) once told me, the sucky runs make the great ones even greater, so there!

Also, I have been snacking much less at night thanks to eating more during the day–who knew?? I’ve added about 100 calories or so to each meal, and I don’t get those nighttime cravings. Worth a shot, right?

Girl crush: Keri Russel. No contest. Also, Rachel McAdams. She’s so gorgeous it pisses me off.

  3. Oh but good lord those Panera bagels are delicious!
I understand what you mean about losing that marathon training. It’s like everything…takes so long to get but no time to lose.
My girl crushes right now are Zooey Deschanel, Penelope Cruz, and Katy Perry.

  4. Michelle M

Emma Stone is top of my girl crush list, followed by Emmy Rossum, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and Diane Lane.

  5. I love Sophia Bush’s voice. It always sounds like she’s sick, but it’s so sexy. And I love her tweets.

  6. April

My girl crush is totally Britney Spears. Even hubs, had that answered quickly for me when I asked that out loud. Eric’s is Poppy Montgomery and Mila Kunis.

  7. Oh Paula, you’re my girl crush!!

  8. Kate Winslet, Jennifer Connelly, Monica Bellucci, and Neko Case are permanently on the laminated card, with Emma Stone and Mila Kunis currently fighting it out for the coveted fifth spot.

  9. Melissa H.

Happy Days! I heard that story on tv somewhere, don’t remember what useless show I was watching. Rachel McAdams, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Sophia Bush, and Nina Dobrev.

  10. Sara

My girl crushes are Gwen Stefani, Kate Winslet, Kate Beckinsale, Zooey Deschanel, and Angelina Jolie (can’t forget about her).

  11. I have the BIGGEST crushes on Emma Stone and Gwen Stefani. Zooey Deschanel a little bit too… And Kate Hudson, so obviously I love it when people say I look like her. Oh yeah, and Rachel McAdams.

  12. I love sophia bush! my true girl crush is jennifer aniston though. and sandra bullock. I guess I like the cougs.
and im eating panera right this second for lunch! mmm!

  13. I am so glad I get some nerd points today. Thank you, the Fonz!

Also, I think Sophia Bush is gorgeous, but I never noticed until now that she seriously is Kristin Bell with a brunette wig on. Holy crap! Mind = blown.

Girl crushes…hmmm. I think that Nina Dobrev from the Vampire Diaries (stop your judging! stop it, right now!) is seriously gorgeous.

  14. Despite the fact that she’s a raging bitch, Madonna will always be my No. 1 girl. Those clothes! Those moves! THOSE ARMS! I adore her, even when she’s ripping Gaga after previously praising her. Oh you minx!

Kate Hudson, Emma Stone, Jennifer Garner and that British girl who on Real World and then in Bridget Jones also make frequent appearances on my list. And I love me some Helen Mirren. She’s my No. 1 girl crush just for all of her ass-kickingness! And have you seen girlfriend in a bikini? DAMN!

    • … and now I show everyone that I can’t do math — two No. 1s is not possible. So Madonna will be my No. 1 lifetime girl crush, and Helen will be my No. 1 right now girl crush. Who knew I’d have to use this much brainpower in a blog comment?

  15. I wasn’t really sure who was mine until I saw the comments from others. Now I’m thinking Mila Kunis, Sophia Bush, Jennifer Aniston and Rachel McAdams.

  16. Lee

I have two main ones – Zooey Deschanel and Rashida Jones. I just watched a movie where they were dating each other. (They were my girl crushes before the movie though.)

  17. Well, you’re my new girl crush for throwing in a Happy Days reference!
Also: Zooey Deschanel and Felicia Day.

  18. Grant me my 10 nerd points – Stupid pointless trivia.

I am totally crushing Emma Stone right now. Maybe it’s the fact that she seems down to earth and doesn’t have a traditional Hollywood Beauty face.

  19. My girl crush would have to be Shakira. I want her moves.

  20. Blake Lively. Sophia Bush. Olivia Wilde. Mila Kunis. Katie Cassidy. Jessica Lowndes. Ashley Greene.

Whoa. Didn’t realize I had so many.

  21. Be glad that you don’t watch OTH regularly! The show was never good. And yet, I find myself watching it once a week on Soapnet. I cannot look away. I’ve tried. Everything is so over the top and annoying and ridiculous, and there I am, on the couch, watching it anyway. Le sigh.*

  22. I watched One Tree Hill when it was on like 8 years ago. The past 3 years religiously EVERY.SINGLE.TIME I see a preview I am seriously, legitimately SHOCKED that that show is still on the air. WHAT? How? I mean, if Perfect Couples can’t make it more than 10 episodes how is THAT show in it’s freaking NINTH SEASON? I have no idea.

  23. Prudence

Alicia Silverstone, Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Nikki Reed!

  24. Happy Days, duh. Supposedly I have a cousin that dated the Fonz, but he turned out to be boring. My mom lies sometimes, though. Also, I’m pretty sure we have the same taste in women. I would add Tina Fey to that collage though. She’s the older Emma Stone.

  25. Jason Gaines

Ok, I’ll be the only guy to comment here… girl “crushes” used to be Ashley Judd and Meg Ryan, however, they are a bit out of the age range for me now, so I will have to go with Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, and Ashley Greene.

  26. Verlin

I like your very-specific goal #4. Sienna Miller is my girl crush – that silly Jude Law should have secured that deal years ago. Good luck on your 17% goal; you will do it!!! My 29% (argh) goal date is Mar 10. Two more goal dates after that, but I’m not thinking that far ahead. I put $2.00 in a jar for every day that I workout, and another $2.00 if I stay under 1,500 calories. If I reach my Mar 10 goal, I’m going to buy something I completely do not need but want. If I don’t make the goal, the money goes to groceries. Two teenage boys in the house means that it will be gone quickly, so hopefully I get to spend it on me instead!

  27. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has more girl celebrity crushes than guy ones! Or maybe I am and you just didn’t mention your guy ones in this post… in that case oh well! 😉

  28. As a huge Howard Stern fan and someone who listens to John Hein who hosts the Wrap Up Show and who created daily, I am familiar with the phrase. 🙂

I watch a lot of shows on he CW because I’m 12 but never got into One Tree Hill.

Emma Stone is girl crush worthy. Loved her in Easy A.

  29. I love that adorable Emma Stone, too, but my #1 will forever and always be Gwyneth Paltrow.

  30. It really stinks knowing all the marathon traning is just slowly trickling out of your body. I’m dying not being able to run much now…but decided that since I’ve done it (all that training) once, I can do it again even better.

I’ve been feeling soooooo much better about myself since I stopped eating so many carbs (goodbye pasta) and started eating more protein. Here’s a link someone sent me to figure out how much protein you should be getting daily.
As for girl crushes…. I don’t know. I mean, I wish Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon would be my besties…does that count?

I tried to write a check out to my friend Kerri H. and instead wrote it out to Kerri Russell. When you write checks to girl crushes I think it’s officially a problem. 🙂

That 70’s Show spoofed “Jumping the Shark” from Happy Days with the Fex character. It was pretty funny.
