Celebrations All Around

Last night, to celebrate National Running Day early, I did a speed run at the gym. Ok. I didn’t know today was National Running Day until after the run, but that sounds like something a real runner would say. I did 4 x 1 mile repeats at half marathon goal pace (9:05) on a treadmill with a broken TV. So that was fun. I got to look at the reflection of my chest and arms running in the TV screen the whole time. I think there’s a reason we don’t do cardio in front of mirrors.

There is no way I can run 13 miles at that pace right now, so I have a lot of work to do and I’m planning to get more serious about it in July.

I also may have found a friend to do the Space Coast Half Marathon with me. For a price. My friend said she will do speed training with me so I can try for a PR and if I get that PR, I have to do a triathlon with her. I may have agreed to this. I actually have no desire to do a tri, but my friend has been asking forEVER. So I might as well mark that one off my non-existent bucket list.

And on a side note, awhile back a co-worker had that picture of the cat as her instant message picture and totally had me convinced it was her cat. Then 6 months later I saw it all over the Web and was really annoyed.

Ok, back to that running thing. My hammies and back are unusually sore from fitness class on Monday and I could really feel it during my run. Then of course, I tweaked my knee somehow during my run last night and could feel it after I got home. It even hurt as I changed positions in bed. And it still feels strange today. That’s what I get for trying to run faster. My body is revolting against me.

I work from home 2 days a week now. Today is my first day.  It’s nice because I can sleep in a little longer, start work a little earlier, and hop on my treadmill during lunch, but I’m not sure I need to be sitting so close to the refrigerator all day. It’s like it’s calling to me. Paaullllaaaa. Cooooome to me. So I came up with this grand plan to do double workouts on days I work from home. I tried to run at lunch but my knee was being a bitch. So I walked 3 miles instead. Better than nothing I guess and my knee felt better afterwards. But I need to get those doubles in to prepare for another celebration: my birthday!

Oh yeah, tomorrow officially marks the day I graced this Earth 36 years ago. That number hurts to type. So, in order to forget my age, wrinkles, and that fact that 90% of my friends are younger than me, there’s gonna be some celebrating. I don’t exactly know how yet, but I’m sure my liver ain’t gonna like it.

I have been reading for awhile and am a fan! I seriously thought you were 25-27 range…..you look so young!!!

  2. Jessica

I agree with Devon… definitely didn’t think you were older than 30!

I’m also a local Orlando reader and may have some great early-birthday news – the Rocky Mountain Chocolate shop in Waterford Lakes is closing this Saturday (well, that’s sad news), but the great news is everything they have in-shop is 60% off until then. My birthday was yesterday and my husband stopped to pick up some goodies for me … the giant peanut butter cups are <$2!

Oh my gosh! I just found out about the place and it’s closing? I need to get there! My hubs said he tried to get some of the PB buckets last weekend and they were just locking the doors so he went to Sweet instead. Not that I’m complaining.

  3. I know your pain about walking instead of running. You have loved running more than me, but since I have these shin splints that won’t quit, I have to walk. It sucks. The 30 Day Shred workout I’ve been doing is making the shin splints hurt…I keep at it, because I’m hoping the short span of time it hurts will get it all stronger….I hope I’m not damaging instead. Anyway, I hope you got the package by now…I’d love to be celebrating with you this weekend, but alas…Happy Early Birthday!

  4. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! 36?! I had no idea! I thought you were my age! Crazy. Happy early birthday!

    Love the kitties.

  5. Happy early birthday! Even though it’s on a weekday an all, I hope you take time to go out and celebrate, get crunk and all that.*

  6. Happy (early) birthday! And there is no way that you’re going to be 36. Lies. Lies I tell you! I would have guessed 30 at the most.

  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY! Honestly I am SHOCKED that you are 36. I was pretty much 100% sure I was older than you. So you’ve got that going for you! I just turned 30 Monday, so I appreciate your early June birthday. 🙂 And I have the fridge problem every time I work from home! Or just am home. Or am alive.

    • Paula

Or alive. That’s the truth right there. 🙂 And THANK you! I think because of your comment I will start telling people I’m 29. 🙂

  8. Hope you have a great birthday, girl!! And hope your knee quits bitching!

  9. Pam

Happy early birthday! Hope you have fun celebrating!! And I’m with the other comments – you look much younger than 36, which is awesome! I’m 28 and could pass for 18 I’m sure so I hope that pays off when I’m 36 too 🙂

  10. Happy Birthday almost…drinking is required and calories don’t count on your birthday.

I cannot believe you are doing a tri…I could never. I hate biking with clips and the swimming looks agressive with so many people. Don’t get me started on the unitards. I will be cheering you on from the internet sidelines.

    • Paula

Oh no, there will be no biking with clips. That would certainly involve a wipeout on my part. And I’ll stay in the back for the swimming because the same thing freaks me out!

  11. Wow…and here I thought you were 56. Huh.

Seriously, friend, happy birthday. Liver destruction doesn’t count on birthdays, so celebrate away!

  12. Happy Birthday, lady! I feel like I’m the last one to the party with the whole not looking your age thing! My birthday is on Saturday so we’re ALMOST birthday twins!

As for the tri, I envy your willingness to enter into that agreement. That’s usually the only way I can force myself to do something I don’t want to. Luckily none of my friends are tri-athletes, so I am safe, for now.

  13. Amber K

I refuse to believe you will be 36. Although I’m 29 and every time I buy a drink bartenders scrutinize my ID as though they are trying to figure out why it looks like such a good copy. It’s real dude, give me my vodka diet.

  14. Julia

    Happy Birthday, today!

  15. happy birthday! what are you doing reading blog comments?! clearly more drinking to do… 😉

  16. kathleen@runderbykat.com

Happy day after your bday! Hope you had a fun celebration…and I never would have guessed your age!
Also, I feel you on the being at home thing. During the summer when I’m off school, I sometimes actually sit on the couch and stare at the fridge…. trying to test my willpower. I usually lose.
