Glutton for Punishment

Besides the leisurely color run on Saturday, I haven’t been doing much running at all, nor have I felt like it. I think about running a lot, but when it comes to actually putting one foot in front of the other, that’s not happening. Total burnout going on over here.

I would say I average three sweet, non-consecutive miles a week. Some of those my Crossfit trainer makes me do, so don’t think they are even voluntary miles, and that’s only when I can’t talk him into letting me do the stair stepper or jump rope instead. So it makes total sense that I would sign up for the Fredericksburg Wildflower 10k.

When I heard the first 200 registrants were getting a free jar of jelly, I just couldn’t pass up the chance that I’d be one of those lucky 200.


I have big plans for me and that jar of jelly. Big plans.

The race is in two weeks so I thought I should probably run more than 2 consecutive miles at some point between now and then. That happened last night. It went pretty well, but man I felt like I was at the gym forever.

It also makes sense that I really want to run the Deckers Creek Trail Half Marathon with Melissa on June 1 too, right? I don’t want to do any of the training to prepare for it, but I’d really like to run that race. I like anything described as “downhill.” Then again, I also like anything described as “covered in frosting.” So until I can find a race that’s covered in frosting, I’ll settle for downhill.

In my head, I want to run so much but my heart hasn’t been in it. So I guess what I’m saying is, my goal for the 10k is to not do this.

  1. I’ve heard this is a great race! I’ve been contemplating running it, maybe I should decide, since it’s next week and all.

  2. Ugh, I feel ya. I want to run another marathon, but the thought of training for it makes me not want to. So basically, I’d like to wear rollerblades and have someone pull me through all 26.2 miles. That counts, right?

      I like that. I’m down for that kind of training. I remember when I was excited I’d “only” have to run 14 miles. Now 5 seems like an eternity.

  3. Ohhhh that’s such a fun little race!!! And F-burg is my favorite place everrrrr. Make sure you stick around and hit up the wineries. Gah, I’m so jealous!!!! And go to the German Bakery downtown and get a German Pretzel. You will not be sorry.

      We’re doing the winery afterwards. You should join us! My co-worker is doing the 5k and told me we had to stop at some bakery on the way back, so that will SO be happening. Get fat with us. You know you want to.

      • Unfortunately, I am super busy and important and have other plans that weekend. Next time, try to schedule with me at least four months in advance. In all seriousness, I am SO JEALOUS. You’ll love that town, so much food and beer and wine and German pastries. Take your stretchy pants. Which winery are you going to? I highly recommend Becker (you get to keep the big ass wine glass they give you for the tasting) or Grape Creek as they are prettiest.

          Don’t let me read on your blog how you were bored and had nothing to do that weekend. I will shiv you like you’ve never been shived before.
          Now that I’m looking at the event page, maybe it’s not at a winery. It’s the Hill Country Wine & Music Festival at the Wildseed Farms. I guess I hear “wine” and “Fredericksburg” and instantly think winery. I’m still really looking forward to seeing the town. The pics online are amazing. Arrange a cold front for me, will ya?

  6. My last race actually went similar to that GIF. Except twice. I don’t think I trust wildflower jelly. Someone one gave me rose jam and it tasted like I’d licked a bottle of perfume.

      I would not enjoy that. I only lick bottles of perfume when I’ve run out of alcohol in the house. Maybe I’ll start a new trend and photograph the jelly in different parts of the country.
