The Holidays

Christmas has come and gone. Santa was good to me and I got to spend time with family and friends. It was nice. We spent Christmas Eve at hub’s cousin Pauline’s house.

We dressed up and looked like respectable adults and ate a potluck dinner that was really good. I made some fast friends with a plate of Oreo truffles. #noregret. After dinner, Pauline hosted her usual white elephant gift exchange and this year was more hilarious than usual. There was a 12 year old girl in the exchange and the first gift she picked was an air compressor for tires (she can’t drive), then someone stole that gift and she picked up some beer mugs (she can’t drink), and then someone stole those and she picked a men’s shaving kit. It was hilarious and I was highly entertained by her reactions to the gifts.

Hubs and I didn’t get home until 1:00am, so our tradition of exchanging gifts at midnight went a little late. We always put on the Swingerhead Christmas CD (seriously, why is that thing $44?), open gifts, and watch a Christmas movie. We made it half way through Christmas Vacation until we decided to call it a night.

Christmas Day, hubs and I went over to our friend Jamie’s house for dinner with her family and a few friends. We spent last Christmas with her family too and it’s always a good time.

I made fast friends with the eclair cake (also, #noregrets) which we have all named the Calorie Wreath.

This year, the Calorie Wreath was specifically requested and it was just as good as I remembered.

For Jamie’s birthday in November, I got her a sexy Jeff Goldblum coffee mug because that’s what good friends do. Then randomly, her step mom (next to me above) got her the SAME mug for Christmas.

We could not get over how she could possibly get such a random gift from two different people. We know all good things come in threes, so we’re waiting for someone to unwittingly gift her the third mug.

After stuffing ourselves silly, we sat by the fire.

Then we watched Ted 2, which was so much better than I expected it to be. I guess Rotten Tomatoes and I will have to agree to disagree on that one.

That pretty much wraps up my holidays. I hope everyone has a happy and safe new year. Tis the season for the Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy!

Christmas Goodies and Badies

Workout: Ran outside 5 miles (48 minutes)

This picture wasn't necessary, I just wanted photographic evidence of my rose bush blooming in the background.

Holy headwind, Batman. That was a tough run. I’m tired from all my other runs this week, and the headwind didn’t help. This would have been a rest day if it wasn’t for me sitting on an airplane all day tomorrow. (At least I’ll finally get to read the rest of The Scorch Trials!)

Santa was very good to me this year. He knows I like running, so he got me a few running goodies.

Experia running socks, a hand-held water bottle with a pocket, and a Sony Walkman wireless mp3 player

I wanted to do a quick review of the mp3 player. I first learned about it from a SkinnyRunner post. Santa was nice enough to bring them, so I tried them out today on my run.

The Good:

  • It’s super easy to change songs, pause, and adjust the volume.
  • No headphone wires to tuck into my shirt.

The Bad:

  • I look like a tool.

Imagine the biggest Blu-tooth ever. On both sides.

  • The headphones are fairly heavy, so they flop around. I had adjust them continuously and was uber aware they were on the entire run.
  • They aren’t great for running. Maybe they’d be pretty good for a weights workout at the gym, though.

I’m not sure I’ll keep using these. I might let the Hubs try them out and see what he thinks.

Once I turned off the headphones at the end of the run, I found that my neighbors were blasting Careless Whisper by Wham! in their back yard. Merry Christmas, indeed.

I’ll be away from the blogging world for a week. So until then, have a safe and happy New Year. xxxooo

Big Boss Holiday Party

Saturday day, the hubman and I attended the holiday party of the owner of our workplace. This is a party at his house that happens every year where the higher up management types from our company and people from organizations (and possibly charities) that our boss is a part of attend. It’s more of an open house for the big boss man to spread some holiday cheer to those he probably doesn’t get enough one-on-one time with.

For the past two years, hubs has been invited since he’s the manager of the graphics department.

This party is super nice – the house is beautiful and can fit 3 or 4 of my houses inside of it.

Actually, my house can probably enter through the front door.

The house is decked out with beautiful decorations.

View of the back yard. Beyond that table is the pool.

There is lots of catered food.

My healthy balance of asparagus and chocolate fondue.

Three open bars.

That bartender tried to talk to me about sports. LOL.  /Fail bartender

And you’re sure to be mingling with someone from work that you probably shouldn’t have too many drinks in front of.

Warning noted. Ok, not really.

Anyway, we are always grateful just for the invitation. And we like the chance to dress up for the holidays other than our normal work party. We had a good time. 🙂

This picture really captures my eye wrinkles. Awesome.
At least hubs looks super cute-a-fied.

Work Holiday Party

Last night was my work holiday party. Usually the party takes place at the Hilton in OIA but this year the party took place at a new spot downtown called The Mezz. This place is inside The Sanctuary. The owner of the company I work for owns part of this building, so this was the first party held there.

People were literally working up to the day of the party getting the place ready because all the finishing touches that contruction does wasn’t complete (like lighting, mirrored walls, etc). They are even constructing some type of venue downstairs in the building that will probably compete with the business the Bob Carr Theatre gets. So…accoustic Tori Amos and Jerry Seinfeld, here we come!

Anyway, the work paid off. The place was beautiful and the lighting felt very noir like you were inside a Veronica Mars episode.

Table settings were pretty dang fancy

The colomns with lights kept changing color

The food was amazing. More amazing than past Christmas parties and I’ve been at the company a long time. I’m not a big fan of salads that I didn’t construct myself (I need to know what’s in them so I can count calories) but the appetizer salad was SO amazing.

Nuts, cranberries, and goat cheese.
And I don’t even like nuts and cranberries
on a salad. Until now apparently.

The waiter put a salad plate at the empty chair next to me. No one was sitting there and I didn’t want to get the waiter in trouble, so I did the only thing I could do to save his integrity and his job. I ate that one too.

Amazing prizes were given out as usual. Visa gift cards from $25 to $1000. This was the first year we had a live band too. Our friends Nicole and Kevin (who also work at my company) played with their band, Krazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Thanks for this pic, Ricardo!

I’d have to say, it was a pretty awesome party this year. Good food, good music, good friends. We even headed out to one of our favorite places downtown afterwards, The Celt, where Kristianna and Steve joined us.

Hubs and I at the party.

Kristianna and I at The Celt

By the way, Kristianna didn’t go to the holiday party but decided to dress up since everyone else was. She showed up in this little kick-ass number. Then she put the moves on my man.

But then she decided she was going to keep her man. *whew*  That was close.

Needless to say, it was a late night and I didn’t get to bed until 3am. I’m tired today but I’m going to force myself to do some treadmill running at the gym. I’ll hate it during, but after I know I’ll feel better. After all, I need all the energy I can get for Paramore tonight at House of Blues Orlando!
