Word To My Mother

Last week, I wrote a post on my dad. So, it seems only fair that I write one on my mom too, because she’s just as awesome as my dad. (Although, I’m sure she’ll tell you that’s not true, and she is definitely more awesome.)

My mom and I moved from Chicago to Bradenton when I was about 6 years old. I lived in Bradenton with my mom until about 9 years ago when I moved to Orlando. In the past year or so, my mom moved out to San Diego, mostly to be closer to my older brother but also so she can tell me every day how the weather there is better than Florida.

Sitting on your mom’s lap, even when you’re 22…is cool.

So I would like to give you four random facts about my mom.

1.  Normally I would like to say I got all my bad habits from my mom. But that’s not true. One day, a long time ago, I asked my mom if she liked “see food.” When she replied yes, I showed her all the chewed-up food in my mouth.

Almost 20 years later and she will ask me that question randomly and show me the food in her mouth, even if I’ve told her I don’t like “see food.”

Lesson: You CAN teach your parents bad habits.

She looks so innocent, doesn’t she? This was at Christmas a few years ago at the in-laws. Don’t let her sweet smile fool you!

2.  When I was growing up, whenever there was a full moon, my mom and I would go outside and howl at it. I still do that in the car now but the hubs doesn’t find it as amusing as I do.

Here’s my mom dropping me off at the airport in San Diego. Why does she look so happy?

3.  Maybe 6 years ago, my mom was walking across the street and was hit by a car. She had to be airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in Tampa and was in the hospital for several weeks.

She had to have 2 feet of her intestines removed, bowel surgery, and I don’t even know how many stitches in her head and legs.

When she was in the hospital and able to speak, she looked at me and said, “you dyed your hair.” I could tell she hated it by the way she said it. And that’s when I knew she was gonna be fine.

(She doesn’t remember saying that, but she did confirm she didn’t like my chunky highlights once she was out of the hospital.) Winking smile

4. When I lived with my mom, over 50% of the people who called us couldn’t tell us apart on the phone. Which obviously means my mom sounds like a sultry temptress on the phone, because that’s just how I sound.

What is a random fact about someone in your family?

By the way, I wanna give a shout out to cutie pie Stacie over at Sugar and Sneakers. She gave me a super awesome blogger award. You should check out her site and say hello! Once I’m able to think of 7 random things about myself, I’ll do the post and claim my award! Smile
